Why Can Neck Problems Cause Headaches & Pressure at the Back of the Head? 🤕

Many people experience headaches where the real problem may not actually come from the “head” itself.

Long-term poor posture such as:

  • looking down frequently,
  • rounded shoulders,
  • and forward head posture,

can place continuous strain and pressure on the neck.

Especially involving muscles such as:
▪️ Upper trapezius
▪️ Suboccipital muscles (small muscles beneath the back of the skull)
▪️ Sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscle

When these muscles remain overly tight for prolonged periods, they can irritate nearby nerves and fascia, causing what is known as “Referred Pain.”

As a result, people may commonly experience:
❌ Pressure or pain at the back of the head
❌ Temple headaches
❌ Migraine-like symptoms
❌ Eye soreness or pressure
❌ Persistent heavy-headed sensation

At the same time, when the natural cervical curve becomes straightened, the pressure on the neck joints increases.

The body then constantly compensates by overusing the neck muscles to support the weight of the head.

Keep in mind:
The human head weighs approximately 4–6 kg.
The further the head moves forward, the greater the stress placed on the cervical spine.

Over time, this may lead to:
🔹 Muscle fatigue
🔹 Poor blood circulation
🔹 Nerve irritation
🔹 Restricted joint mobility

As a result, headaches tend to keep recurring.

That’s why many people say:
“Massage helps temporarily,
but the pain comes back again after a few days.”

Because the real issue is not just the muscles alone — it is actually a chain reaction involving:
⚠️ Poor posture + Cervical spine stress + Muscle imbalance.
